Important information

Is the Porto walking tour suitable for all ages?

Yes! Our Porto walking tour is designed to be enjoyable for most ages and fitness levels. The route does include some uphill sections and cobblestone streets, which are part of Porto’s historic charm, so we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Children are welcome as long as they are accompanied by an adult. Families, couples, and solo travelers all enjoy this experience.

How many people are in each Porto walking tour group?

To ensure a friendly and engaging atmosphere, group sizes are kept small. Typically, there are no more than 12–15 participants per guide. This allows for more interaction, easier questions, and a more personal guided tour experience in Porto.

Is the Porto walking tour wheelchair accessible?

Unfortunately, this tour is not recommended for wheelchair users, as Porto’s old town is known for its steep hills, narrow streets, and uneven cobblestones. If you need an accessible experience, we can suggest alternative private tours tailored to your needs.

What happens if it rains during the Porto walking tour?

The tour takes place rain or shine, so we recommend bringing an umbrella or a waterproof jacket. Porto keeps its charm even on rainy days, with its colorful façades and views over the Douro River. In case of extreme weather conditions, we will contact you to reschedule or suggest alternatives.

Can vegetarians join the tour?

Many tastings are meat- or fish-based but contact us in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs. Subject to confirmation.

How big are the groups?

We keep it intimate: usually 8–12 guests for a personal experience.

What’s included?

At least 10 food tastings and 3 drinks, including Port Wine and Ginjinha. The 4-hour option also includes lunch or dinner, depending on the tour time. The tour is led by a passionate local guide. All taxes and insurance are included.

More information

Food is culture and in Porto, every bite tells a story. On this Porto food and wine walking tour, you’ll experience the heart of the city: its people, traditions, and soul, through the flavors that define it. This guided experience begins in the vibrant city center, where your local guide introduces you to Porto’s rich culinary history. You’ll walk from the iconic Santa Catarina Street to the cultural artery of Rua Passos Manuel, learning how each neighborhood reflects a different layer of the city’s identity. The first bites? You’ll sample a custard tart (Pastel de Nata) paired with a bold special blend espresso, as your guide shares how monks once guarded its original recipe. Next, you’ll visit the legendary Bolhão Market, Porto’s traditional marketplace pulsing with color, voices, and fresh aromas. Meet local vendors, see the ingredients that power Portuguese kitchens, and feel the heartbeat of daily life in the city. You’ll continue to hidden taverns and mercearias (old-school groceries) where locals shop, eat, and gather. Tuck into a rustic charcuterie board with Portuguese cheeses, smoked meats, olives, and artisan bread, always paired with a glass of full-bodied Douro wine. Along the way, your guide will bring Porto’s food scene to life with stories of wine routes, forgotten recipes, and family traditions that survived through generations. This isn’t just about tasting, but about understanding what food means to locals. One of the final stops? A traditional Bifana (thinly sliced pork in spicy marinade, Porto-style) served with a “fino,” the small local draft beer that keeps conversations flowing. Of course, a food tour in Porto wouldn’t be complete without Port Wine. You’ll taste three distinct styles - Ruby, Tawny, and White, while learning the secrets behind how it’s made, aged, and served. The wines are poured with pride and explained with passion. By the end, you won’t just feel full, you’ll feel connected. This tour is a tribute to the flavors and people that make Porto unforgettable. Whether you’re a foodie, a wine lover, or a curious traveler, this walking experience offers a deeper, tastier way to explore the city.
